Sidenote: Dear Steelers, What happened today???? Yikes!
What you need for the meatballs:
1 1/4 lb. ground turkey meat (do not use extra lean)
1/2 medium yellow onion, grated
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tsp ginger, grated
1/4 cup Italian parsley, chopped
3/4 tsp five-spice powder
1 egg
1/4 cup plus 2 tbsp dried breadcrumbs
1 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
For the sauce:
Sauce:
1/3 cup rice vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup water
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup canola oil
1 tbsp all-purpose flour
2 tsp fresh ginger, minced
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tsp sesame seeds, toasted
What you do:
Preheat the oven to 350 and then spray your cookie sheets.
Combine all the meatball ingredients in a large bowl. Form the meatballs by rolling 2 T of the mixture in your hands. Place on your greased cookie sheet and bake for about 15 minutes. When cooked all the way through, remove from oven (but not from your cookie sheet).
Next, grab a small saucepan. Place all of your sauce ingredients in it and whisk over medium heat. Simmer for about 8-10 minutes when the sauce begins to thicken. Reduce heat to low to keep the sauce warm.
You will then brush the meatballs liberally with the sauce and return to the oven for 5 minutes.
You want to serve these little guys warm so if you are bringing to someone’s house, you might consider doing the final step there. Be sure to serve with the extra sauce. Touchdown!!
